Pioneer Hi Bred International issued US patent for 'maize variety hybrid X80B468'

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia , January 15, 2014 () – United States Patent no. 8,629,320, issued on Jan. 14, was assigned to Pioneer Hi Bred International Inc (Johnston, Iowa).

"Maize variety hybrid X80B468" was invented by Lori Karyn Scott (Barnesville, Minn.), Joachim Ernst Kramer (Neusiedl, Austria) and Gustavo Marcelo Garcia (Stratford, Canada).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A novel maize variety designated X80B468 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof, produced by crossing Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. proprietary inbred maize varieties. Methods for producing a maize plant that comprises crossing hybrid maize variety X80B468 with another maize plant. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into X80B468 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. This invention relates to the maize variety X80B468, the seed, the plant produced from the seed, and variants, mutants, and minor modifications of maize variety X80B468. This invention further relates to methods for producing maize varieties derived from maize variety X80B468."

The patent was filed on March 9, 2011, under Application No. 13/043,545.
