Croatian company Uni Viridas has started the construction of a 50 million euro ($69 million) wood biomass-fired cogeneration plant with a 9.7 megawatt (MW) capacity in Babina Greda, in the country's east, the press office of president Ivo Josipovic said.
Finland's MW Power will supply and install the necessary equipment by June 2015, the press office said in a statement issued on Monday after Josipovic attended the ground-breaking ceremony.
Uni Viridas, set up by Turkish-Dutch corporation Unit Investment, plans to invest an additional 30 million euro to build 12 hectares of greenhouses and 3,500 square metres of refrigerated warehouses, among other facilities, the statement said.
