Sears Canada extending store hours on Dec. 23 and 24 to make up for shortened hours that occurred in some of nation's malls over weekend due to bad weather

TORONTO , December 23, 2013 (press release) – Most stores across Canada Open until Midnight Monday and Open Early Tuesday

Sears Canada Inc. (TSX: SCC) announced today that it will extend store hours over the next two days to help customers make up for the shortened hours that occurred in some malls over the weekend due to weather, and to provide an opportunity for customers to do their shopping in more reasonable weather. Rather than single out certain locations, Sears will extend its hours at all its full-line department stores across Canada, where it is permitted to do so, to midnight on Monday night, December 23 and open its doors at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24.

"Customers were counting on being able to shop extensively for Christmas over the last two days, and weather forced several malls in which we are located to close and others to operate with limited capacity," explained Doug Campbell, President and Chief Executive Officer, Sears Canada. "Staying open until midnight tonight and opening early on Christmas Eve will help make up for some of that during this very busy period. We are thankful to the sales associates who elected to work the extended shifts and allow their colleagues to carry on with their plans."

All Sears full-line department stores in Canada will participate in the extended hours except Lloydminster, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Cobourg, Bathurst, Truro, New Glasgow, New Minas, Corner Brook and those located in the province of Quebec.
