LOS ANGELES , December 12, 2013 () – European and North American builders have started designing and constructing wood-framed structures of more than 20 stories, sparking interest in the trend in Taiwan, where the Taipei Building Show is taking place Dec. 12 to 15, Focus Taiwan reported on Dec. 12.

Taipei Building Show is hosting more than 500 building material exhibitors from 12 countries.

The U.S. pavilion at the show is made of wood, chosen as a renewable and energy-efficient material, according to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), which represents U.S. interests in Taiwan. The pavilion’s exhibits include green building materials, furniture and decorative wood items.

The AIT and its Agricultural Trade Office intend to promote sustainable building materials in the Taiwan to create a stronger partnership between the American and Taiwanese wood industries.

At the building show’s opening ceremony, Christopher Marut, director of the AIT's Taipei Office, noted that wood had found its way into more buildings with the development of innovative building techniques in recent decades, and the trend in constructing ever-taller wood buildings had sparked discussion in Taiwan.
