Method for manufacturing nonwovens using recycled paper and paperboard as raw materials developed by VTT Technical Research Center of Finland; new method is 20% less costly than process that uses wood as feedstock
Finland , December 9, 2013 (Chemical Fibers International) – The VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed a method for manufacturing nonwovens using recycled paper and cardboard as raw materials. The cost of cardboard-based nonwovens is expected to be 20% lower than those produced using wood as raw materials. There is a strong demand for technology and new applications for exploiting recycled paper because the European Union (EU) plans to raise the proportion of recycled paper in paper products to 70%. Around 60 M tonnes/y of recycled paper is produced in Europe; 40% of which are cardboard.
