Fire breaks out, is quickly extinguished by employees at Quad/Graphics' Lomira, Wisconsin, printing plant; facility resuming operations

MILWAUKEE , November 22, 2013 (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ) – A fire broke out Thursday morning at a printing plant in Lomira, but within hours it was extinguished and the business said it was resuming operations.

There were initial reports of an explosion, Lt. Aaron Ellis of the Dodge County Sheriff's Office said, and emergency crews responded at about 11:15 a.m. to a fire in one of the buildings of the two-million-square-foot Quad/Graphics plant.

The fire was quickly put out, the Sheriff's Office said. Everyone made it safely out of the building, and there were no injuries.

According to Claire Ho, a spokeswoman for Quad/Graphics, a small fire broke out in the building, the cause of which is still under investigation, and employees and along with the building's sprinkler system extinguished it quickly. Firefighters were called and on hand, as per the company's protocol.

"The building is back open, and we're cleaning up water and returning to operations," she said.

The facility in Lomira is Quad/Graphics' largest printing plant in Wisconsin.

A fire killed one person and destroyed a 10-story storage warehouse at the Quad/Graphics Lomira plant in 2002.

Quad/Graphics, a public company with annual revenue of $4.8 billion, prints magazines, catalogs, retail inserts, books and other products in more than 50 production facilities on three continents, according to the company's website.
