Pioneer Hi Bred International issued US patent for 'maize variety hybrid X95B315'

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia , November 20, 2013 () – United States Patent no. 8,586,840, issued on Nov. 19, was assigned to Pioneer Hi Bred International Inc (Johnston, Iowa).

"Maize variety hybrid X95B315" was invented by Stephen Joseph Szalma (Kandiyohi, Minn.), Lori Lisa Carrigan (Spicer, Minn.), Todd Elliott Piper (Mankato, Minn.), Jay Robert Hotchkiss (Brookings, S.D.), Steven Paul King (Stratford, Canada), Martin Arbelbide (North Mankato, Minn.) and Michael Joseph O'Leary (Eau Claire, Wis.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A novel maize variety designated X95B315 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof, produced by crossing Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. proprietary inbred maize varieties. Methods for producing a maize plant that comprises crossing hybrid maize variety X95B315 with another maize plant. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into X95B315 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. This invention relates to the maize variety X95B315, the seed, the plant produced from the seed, and variants, mutants, and minor modifications of maize variety X95B315. This invention further relates to methods for producing maize varieties derived from maize variety X95B315."

The patent was filed on March 9, 2011, under Application No. 13/043,587.
