No signs that IP's Bogalusa, Louisiana, containerboard mill will be closed, says new mill manager, who grades the mill as 'excellent' and intends to continue its ongoing focus on safety, the environment and making a quality product

LOS ANGELES , November 18, 2013 (Industry Intelligence) – Occasional rumors that International Paper Co.’s (IP) containerboard mill in Bogalusa, Louisiana, might be closed are wrong, according to the mill’s new manager, Bernie Chascin, reported The Daily News on Nov. 16.

There are no indications of an imminent shutdown, said Chascin, who a month ago was promoted to mill manager from mill operations manager, a position he held since May 2012, shortly after IP took over the mill.

Former mill manager Todd Crutcher was promoted and relocated to IP’s corporate headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee, The Daily News reported.

The plan for the mill will not change under Chascin’s leadership. The focus will remain on safety, the environment, and making a quality product, said Chascin, noting that the employees have been willing to do what it takes for the mill to succeed.

Chascin is a chemical engineer and has been with IP since 1991. He worked at four mills, coming to Bogalusa after serving as mill manager at the containerboard mill in Ontario, California, reported The Daily News.

The Bogalusa mill produces containerboard for industrial packaging, according to IP’s website.
