Vitro receives Glass Packaging Institute award in cosmetics and perfume category for design of Jafra-brand Garden Fairy EDT glass container, president's choice award for successfully converting Hidden Valley-brand Sandwich Spread & Dip container to glass

SAN PEDRO GARZA GARCIA, Mexico , November 12, 2013 (press release) – The Mexican company receives the GPI’s President’s Choice Award, which is awarded for the first time.

Vitro S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV: VITROA), hereinafter “Vitro” or the “Company”, the leading glass producer in Mexico, informs that the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) awarded Vitro Packaging two awards in its annual “Clear Choice Awards” event; one of which, the President’s Choice Award is awarded for the first time.

On this occasion, Vitro received awards for the tenth consecutive time in the cosmetics and perfume categories for the design of the glass container for Garden Fairy EDT, produced for its client Jafra. Likewise, it received the President’s Choice Award for its Sandwich Spread & Dip container, designed for the Hidden Valley food products company, for having successfully reconverted from another material to glass.

The President of the GPI, Lynn Bragg, stated that: “This year the participants showed a tendency towards the art and the added value that containers provide to the consumer, with which we ratify that nothing communicates the purity and quality of products like an excellent design produced with glass. Therefore, we should not be surprised by the fact that many beverage, drinks and perfume companies recognize that glass is the best option for their products, since it preserves their integrity, in addition to being infinitely recyclable”.

Upon receiving the notification of these awards, John T. Shaddox, President of Vitro Packaging declared: “The awards we have received are very important for our Company, since on one hand, they ratify the quality of our containers for cosmetic products, a highly competitive sector, where for ten straight years we have been recognized not only for our innovation but also for our distinguished customer service. On the other hand, having received the President’s Choice Award on the first year it is awarded represents a motivation that reminds us that for Vitro nothing is impossible”.

Additionally, Eduardo Diaz Kirk, Marketing Manager at Vitro Packaging said: “Receiving these awards strengthens our commitment to continue innovating and expanding our productive capacity, since this is a clear indicator that our products and services are appreciated by the industry and by our clients”.

The companies that participated this year were graded on their innovation, design and their desirability for the consumer. The independent jury was comprised by Robert Bush, professor of the Virginia Tech University’s sustainable biomaterials department, Andrew Kaplan, editor in chief of the “Beverage World” magazine, Silvio Marcacci, of the blog specialized in containers, and Rick Edwards who is in charge of the bar of a known restaurant in Washington, D.C.

By obtaining these international awards, Vitro once again confirms its conviction that the success of its products is due to a combination of added value services with the experience of the company in what it does best: containers. “Our added value services include container decoration processes, alternative packaging solutions and the knowledge of our experts in technical services that have made Vitro the best alternative in containers”, concluded Diaz Kirk.

The GPI was founded in 1919 and has become the association that represents the glass container industry in the United States, on behalf of which it promotes the use of this material as the best option for packaging. Since 1989, the Clear Choice Awards program has awarded the manufacturers that have transcended in package design, using glass in an innovative manner to highlight the products they contain.
