China imports 4.2 million tonnes of soybeans in October, down 10.9% from September, according to government data; nation's soybean imports total 49.9 million tonnes in first 10 months of 2013, up 3.3% year-over-year

BEIJING , November 11, 2013 () – China imported 4.19 million metric tons (tonnes) of soybean in October, down 10.85 percent from the previous month, according to the latest data provided by the General Administration of Customs (GAC) on Friday.

The figure is far lower than the Ministry of Commerce's earlier forecast of 5.21 million tonnes.

In the first 10 months of this year, the country's soybean imports totaled 49.94 million tonnes, up 3.3 percent year on year, customs data showed.
