MENTOR, Ohio , November 8, 2013 (press release) – Avery Dennison has been named winner of the Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute's (TLMI) 2013 Supplier Award for Environmental Leadership for the third time in the award’s history. Avery Dennison is the first company to be recognized with the honor three times.

“We are honored to be recognized for our ongoing collaboration to create a stronger, more sustainable label and packaging industry,” said Darrell Hughes, vice president and general manager for Materials Group North America.

“We believe that we can -- and need to -- do more to improve the sustainable impact of our business and products to conserve the Earth’s limited natural resources,” Hughes said.

The Environmental Leadership Awards recognize the efforts of TLMI member companies to commit to and follow positive environmental practices. Two awards are given each year, one to an industry supplier for introducing innovative technologies and the second to a converter for process improvements that help create a more sustainable industry. The awards are handed out at TLMI’s annual meeting, which was held this year in San Antonio, Texas Oct. 20-23.

“This is TLMI’s 11th year in presenting these awards and recognizing leaders in the implementation of environmental awareness and best sustainability practices in our industry,” said Calvin Frost, chair of the TLMI Environmental Committee. “Sustainability is a central issue in our marketplace and I applaud all the companies who submitted award entries for consideration this year.”

Avery Dennison has made several innovations that promote resource conservation, including cost-neutral Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC)-certified paper label materials and the Avery Dennison CleanFlake™ portfolio, with labels that detach readily in the conventional recycling process and help make the recycling of PET bottles more effective.

In September, Avery Dennison released a sustainability report detailing its progress in becoming a more sustainable company.
