Total softwood and hardwood lumber production by Canadian sawmills increased 0.3% from July to 4,678,600 m3 in August, according to data released on Oct. 29 by Statistics Canada. Compared with August 2012, lumber production was up 0.2%.
Sawmills shipped 4,635,600 m3 of lumber in August, down 9.8% from July.
Total softwood lumber production was 4,580,900 m3 in August, of which 4,134,400 m3 was spruce, pine and fir. British Columbia contributed 2,399,900 m3 of softwood to the total production figure, of which 2,004,800 was SPF.
