Euro area's Business Climate Indicator increases 0.18 points in October from September to 0.01, close to historic long-term average; BCI has been on upward trend since May: Eurostat

BRUSSELS , October 30, 2013 (press release) –

In October 2013, the Business Climate Indicator (BCI) for the euro area continued the upward trend that started in May 2013. It increased by 0.18 points to 0.01, close to its historic long-term average. The assessments of past production, the level of overall order books and production expectations improved markedly. Also the level of export order books and the stocks of finished products were appraised more positively.

The BCI is based on a factor analysis of the euro area aggregate balances (seasonally adjusted) of five of the monthly questions in the industry survey (only employment and selling-price expectations are excluded).

The next BCI results are due to be published on 28 November 2013.
