Improved cartonboards for beautycare also on show.
Metsä Board introduced a fully bleached new liner at Luxe Pack 2013. Modo Northern Light is a lightweight, uncoated liner with high whiteness, ideal for microflute as well as for traditional corrugated packaging. It is applicable both for outer and inner packaging in high-quality applications such as beautycare.
Modo Northern Light comes in a low substance range from 80-160 g/m2 and a bright white shade, making it ideal for microflute applications such as perfume and other beautycare packaging. It also works well in larger packaging, for example, online and mail order packaging. In corrugating it has a low washboarding tendency thanks to its bulk, and printability of both solids and screens is excellent, with high contrast. It can be used as a top liner, as fluting and as a reverse side liner. Modo Northern Light is manufactured at Metsä Board’s Husum mill in Sweden.
Metsä Board also showed its double-coated liner, Carta Selecta, which provides even more options when high gloss is required for corrugated packaging, displays, point-of-sale and shelf-ready packaging. It is designed for demanding multicolour litholamination and UV varnish. It also has a low cracking tendency, so folds and creases stay in pristine condition. Carta Selecta was previously only available in the US markets.
“Both Modo Northern Light as well as Carta Selecta complement our product range by providing more options for our customers,” says Christophe Baudry, Commercial Director Beautycare & Healthcare, Metsä Board Paperboard. “They are also a good choice in terms of sustainability. They are made from fresh forest fibres grown in sustainably managed Nordic forests.”
Enhanced folding boxboards – lighter weights and optimised shades
Metsä Board also showed its folding boxboard range, highlighting the recent improvements to its grades Carta Elega and Avanta Prima. These boards are now even more suitable for a particular packaging end-use such as beautycare or luxury packaging.
The shade of Carta Elega has been optimised to enhance visual whiteness – an important characteristic in the beautycare and luxury packaging market. The new shade gives an excellent print result, and unprinted white areas will now appear cleaner and brighter, giving even more shelf appeal. Carta Elega is suitable for special features such as foil lamination, hot foil stamping and embossing.
The bulk of Avanta Prima has been improved, meaning a lighter weight can be specified whilst maintaining the same thickness and stiffness. As a result Metsä Board has further light-weighted grammages across the range. The shade of the product has also been optimised to enhance visual whiteness.
Metsä Board’s cartonboards on show at Luxe Pack also included Carta Integra and Carta Solida lightweight high-quality paperboards, as well as the Chromolux cast-coated board range that is especially recommended for applications requiring high gloss and a luxurious look.
