CIRENCESTER, U.K. , October 21, 2013 (press release) – Crown Timber Group has acquired the assets of the former Haminan Veistosaha (Havesa) sawmill in the port of Hamina, in the South-East of Finland.

Stuart McIntyre, Chief Executive of Crown Timber, explained: "We know this company very well having been its largest customer for many years. It has had some bad luck, but we feel that the company can be successful again. The equipment is ideal for producing our structural whitewood products and we feel that the timing of this deal, with initial signs of improving demand levels in the UK and Ireland becoming apparent, is good.”

The Hamina mill will produce TR26 grade truss timber and C16/C24 grade CLS in certain key lengths for supply to Crown Timber’s UK and Irish distribution businesses. Production initially will be limited to one shift. In Stuart McIntyre’s view: "We see good sales opportunities ahead and will increase production volumes in Hamina as the market becomes ready. We do not anticipate reducing any purchase volumes for our current suppliers.”
