Lipton's Suffolk plant is rolling out another new product that it hopes will boost sales as much as it boosts those who drink it.
It's called Lipton Natural Energy and is being marketed as, well, a natural alternative to artificially concocted midlevel energy drinks.
"Lipton Natural Energy is a bold black tea with just the right amount of caffeine. The delicious blend is made with fresh-pressed tea leaves and is perfect for that much-needed mid-morning boost!" Lipton spokeswoman Jennifer Davis said in an email.
Lipton Natural Energy has around 75 milligrams of caffeine per 8-ounce serving, about the same as a can of Red Bull but slightly more than a 12-ounce bottle of Mountain Dew. Regular Lipton tea has about 40 milligrams. A venti-sized Starbucks coffee has about 415 milligrams.
Lipton's parent company Unilever plans to make a formal announcement about the new product in the coming weeks, Davis said. It is available now on Amazon.com for $4.58 for a 40-bag box.
