PITTSBURGH , October 10, 2013 (press release) – Sack packaging offers dispensing flexibility and lower landfill costs

PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) fiber glass business now offers a heavyweight, reusable 2,000-pound bulk bag package option for its CHOPVANTAGE® wet chop chopped strand products for the gypsum market. This sack package option is in addition to corrugated carton packaging options in 1,000-pound and 2,500-pound volumes by weight.

“The launch of a sack packaging option for our high-volume wet chop gypsum customers enables them to process our fiber glass quickly and easily through their systems, with minimal downtime and conversion between packages,” said Harrison Blanton, PPG product manager for chopped fibers in the Americas. “In addition, the use of packaging that can be recycled and reused results in reduced energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions – a winning combination for all of us.”

The portfolio of CHOPVANTAGE wet chop chopped strands offers customers products to achieve maximum performance in gypsum and roofing applications. Various strand lengths are available – ranging from 6 to 34 millimeters – and offer quick and easy fiber dispersion for the end-use application. Produced from continuous filament strands, CHOPVANTAGE wet chop chopped strand products offer excellent performance properties and flow consistency. CHOPVANTAGE 8007 wet chop chopped strands for gypsum are recognized under the Component Recognition Program of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL).

“We are committed to providing our customers with solutions that help them meet the needs and demands of their customers,” said Gerald Marino, PPG global business director for transportation and consumer markets. “For more than 30 years, PPG has been developing product technology for these wet chop chopped strand products and offering the advantage of choice to the independent building materials industry.”
