The Government will not permit an increase in milk powder prices, Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Chairman Rumy Marzook said.
He said milk powder prices would not be increased though local and imported milk powder companies had requested for an increase. He said legal action would be taken against milk powder companies, if they increase milk powder prices without CAA approval.
"Pointing out that there is a controlled price for milk powder, action will be taken against milk powder companies or traders who jack up milk powder prices without prior written approval of the Authority," he said.
"The controlled retail prices for a 400 g pack of milk powder and 1kg pack of milk powder is Rs.325 and Rs.810 respectively, and these controlled prices cannot be increased unfairly without permission from the Consumer Affairs Authority," he said.
