LOS ANGELES , October 8, 2013 (press release) – For the third consecutive year, KB Home receives highest EPA recognition for water conservation achievements

KB Home (NYSE: KBH), one of the nation’s largest and most recognized homebuilders and an industry leader in building water-efficient homes, has been honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a WaterSense® Partner of the Year for the third time in as many years. The company remains the first and only builder to earn the prestigious title. The WaterSense Partner of the Year awards program recognizes organizations that demonstrate overall excellence in their water-saving initiatives and spread awareness about the value of a WaterSense label.

KB Home first partnered with the WaterSense program in 2009 to include WaterSense labeled fixtures as standard features in all its new homes, and became the first homebuilder to construct homes to EPA’s WaterSense New Home specification in 2010. To date, KB Home has built the most WaterSense labeled new homes in the country.

“KB Home is proud to once again achieve the WaterSense Partner of the Year designation for our continued innovation in the important area of water efficiency,” said Dan Bridleman, senior vice president of Sustainability, Technology and Strategic Sourcing for KB Home. “Water is a truly limited resource for which there is no substitute or guarantee of replenishment, and KB Home remains committed to building homes that help conserve water and educating our customers about the financial and environmental benefits of WaterSense labeled products.”

In addition to water-efficient products, EPA’s WaterSense program offers a national label that helps Americans identify homes that save water, energy and money on utility bills. In 2012 alone, WaterSense labeled products and new homes helped Americans save more than 202 billion gallons of water, or the amount of water needed to supply all the homes in Colorado for one year.

“All of our WaterSense partners have taken steps to reduce our nation’s water use, but several stood out in 2012 for their commitment to the WaterSense program and collaborative efforts to promote WaterSense-labeled products, new homes and outreach and educational programs,” said EPA’s acting Assistant Administrator for Water Nancy Stoner. “We are pleased to honor KB Home for their efforts that support our mission to protect the future of our nation’s water supply.”
