MUNICH/SÃO PAULO , September 18, 2013 (press release) – At ABRAFATI 2013 in São Paulo, the WACKER Group is showcasing two new vinyl acetate- and ethylene-based dispersions as binders for sophisticated adhesive solutions. VINNAPAS® EP6300 and VINNAPAS® EP7000 enable the formulation of high-performance, waterbased adhesives with a broad variety of uses, from bonding paper labels to plastic bottles over vinyl lamination to construction and flooring applications. Moreover, both products are manufactured without the use of alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs). Additional highlights are WACKER’s alpha-silane-based hybrid polymers for solvent- and tin-free sealants and adhesives and vapor- permeable liquid waterproofing membranes, dispersions for high-quality decorative paints as well as its dispersible polymer powders for decorative exterior plasters and self-leveling flooring compounds. ABRAFATI 2013 is being held from September 16 to 18 in São Paulo, Brazil.

At ABRAFATI 2013, WACKER is showcasing the newly developed VINNAPAS® EP6300 and VINNAPAS® EP7000 for the first time on the American market. The polymer dispersions based on vinyl acetate- ethylene copolymers (VAE) are ideal binders for formulating high-performance yet environmentally compatible water-based adhesives.

The new VINNAPAS® EP6300 is a VAE dispersion with an additional carboxyl functionality and a high solids content. The product features very rapid setting speed, high wet tack, good machinability, clear film formation and excellent mechanical properties. With its low glass transition temperature (Tg) of -3 to 3°C, VINNAPAS® EP6300 is well suited for bonding plastic films with surfaces which are porous or contain cellulose. Owing to its carboxyl functionality, the dispersion also exhibits outstanding adhesive properties on metal surfaces and aluminum foils.

At 71 percent, the solids content of newly developed VINNAPAS® EP7000 is the highest in the WACKER portfolio for VAE-based adhesives. The product delivers high adhesion, good water resistance combined with a rapid setting speed, and excellent wet tack. VINNAPAS® EP7000 is therefore suitable for a broad variety of uses, ranging from conventional paper and packaging through to construction and flooring applications.

Both products show good compatibility with plasticizers. Consequently, they are particularly suitable for adhesive formulations with a high solids concentration but moderate viscosity. They are also compatible with other latex dispersions, epoxy resins and water-based urethane dispersions. Moreover, both VINNAPAS® EP6300 and VINNAPAS® EP7000 are manufactured without using alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs), thereby enabling the formulation of environmentally friendly adhesives. Uses include bonding paper labels to plastic bottles, vinyl lamination, and construction and flooring applications.

Other Product Highlights at ABRAFATI 2013:

  • GENIOSIL® STP-E: Rapid-Curing Hybrid Adhesives
    • GENIOSIL® STP-E technology’s alpha hybrid polymers are ideal for producing fast-curing, one-component adhesives and sealants. The alpha effect even allows for the formulation of tin-free systems. Adhesives formulated with GENIOSIL® STP-E have outstanding mechanical properties, are exempt from labeling requirements and can be formulated without plasticizers and solvents. GENIOSIL® STP-E is used, for example, in the automotive sector and in container construction or for bonding parquet floors.
  • Watertight But Vapor-Permeable: GENIOSIL® WP
    • Liquid waterproofing membranes based on GENIOSIL® WP are ideal for waterproofing flat roofs, balconies and terraces. They can be formulated with conventional equipment without using solvents. The one-component end products are classified as non-hazardous and adhere to many different substrates with no need for a primer. They can be processed with a roller or airless spray gun in almost any weather conditions. When cured, the membrane forms a firm, nontacky surface that is rainproof, watertight and vapor permeable.
  • VINNAPAS® Dispersible Polymer Powder for Decorative Exterior Plasters and Self-Leveling Flooring Compounds
    • VINNAPAS® 3030 dispersible polymer powder exhibits excellent water repellency and outstanding mechanical properties and is thus ideal for decorative exterior plasters. The VINNAPAS® brand of dispersible polymer powders further enables the formulation of self-leveling flooring compounds and fillers that produce smooth, even surfaces and feature high abrasion resistance as well as flexural and compressive strength.
  • VINNAPAS® Dispersions for High-Quality Decorative Paints
    • The VAE dispersions VINNAPAS® EF8300 and VINNAPAS® EF8001 are ideal for interior decorative paints and coatings that combine high performance with a reduced environmental impact: Both are manufactured without the use of formaldehyde donors or APEO and enable the formulation of high-quality coatings with low odor and a low content of volatile organic compounds (VOC). Further, these dispersions offer a good cost/benefit ratio.
