Canadian sales for food services and drinking places industry up 0.8% in May from April to C$4.6B, Statistics Canada says; price index for food purchased from restaurants up 0.1%

OTTAWA , July 31, 2013 (press release) – Sales for the food services and drinking places industry rose 0.8% from April to $4.6 billion in May. During the same period, the price index for food purchased from restaurants edged up 0.1%.

In May, all four industry sectors posted higher sales compared with April. The full-service restaurant sector rose 0.8%, the limited-service restaurant sector was up 0.9%, the special food services sector, which includes food service contractors, caterers and mobile food services advanced 0.6%, and the drinking places sector edged up 0.1%.

Every province posted higher sales in May, with increases ranging from 0.1% in British Columbia to 2.6% in Nova Scotia.
