Sharp to inspect, fix 729,000 washing machines in Japan as their electric wiring may be faulty and they could trigger a fire

OSAKA, Japan , July 29, 2013 () – Sharp Corp. said Monday it will inspect and fix a total of 729,000 washing machines as their electric wiring may be faulty and they could trigger a fire.

The 42 models of washer in question were manufactured between 1999 and 2006. Sharp confirmed three cases of fire involving the appliances in the prefectures of Saitama, Chiba and Kumamoto between March 2011 and June this year, it said.

In the three cases, fire damaged areas surrounding the washers as well as the appliances themselves, it added.
