The Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry now forecasts that the corn harvest in the country in 2013 will exceed 25 million tonnes, which would be a record high figure, the ministry said.
Earlier, the ministry forecast that the corn yield this year would be 22-23 million tonnes.
The ministry also reported that Ukraine as of July 23 had harvested 23.5 million tonnes of grain, including 17.2 million tonnes of wheat, 5.6 million tonnes of barley, and 341,000 tonnes of rye.
As reported, the ministry forecasts that the grain harvest in 2013 will be 53-54 million tonnes against 46.2 million tonnes in 2012.
According to the State Statistics Service, the corn harvest in Ukraine in 2012 amounted to 20.9 million tonnes, which is 8.4% less than in 2011.
