Jersey Mike's Beats Quiznos, But Don't Expect Subway To Be So Easy

– A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I were trying to decide what we wanted for dinner. She suggested Quiznos (which sounded good. I hadn’t had a toasted sub in quite some time). So I got in my car and drove to a nearby Quiznos.
Except that when I got to the location, it wasn’t there. Across the street, however, was a Jersey Mike’s.
So I got back into my car and headed out to a second Quiznos that was a little further away. Guess what? Wasn’t there either. But nearby was…yep, a recently opened Jersey Mike’s.
There was one more Quiznos in the vicinity that I knew of. But this time, I checked on my iPhone to see if it was still there.
It was now a Jersey Mike’s.
Now granted, this is a small sample size. Having said that, it’s pretty telling that three Quiznos locations would all be gone not long after a Jersey Mike’s opened up. As a consumer, the reasons are pretty simple. Jersey Mike’s offers better quality for a similar price. Based on that simple logic, Quiznos has no chance.
But a far tougher opponent for Jersey Mike’s is Subway. The largest quick-service chain in terms of locations withstood the challenge of Quiznos based largely on their lower prices and the fact that it started offering its own toasted sub services. Most consumers will probably tell you that in terms of quality, Quiznos trumps Subway. But when it comes to fast-food consumers, price trumps all.
Expect Subway to withstand Jersey Mike’s challenge to sub sandwich chains that seems to be wiping out Quiznos.
