JAKARTA, Indonesia , June 22, 2013 (press release) – Information released and claims made over the past 48 hours about the role of Asia Pacific Resources International Limited (APRIL) in forest fires in Riau Province, Indonesia, are inaccurate and not consistent with the facts.

Further to our statement early morning 22 June 2013, we have now completed a review of National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellite imagery and have verified by direct field inspection that there are currently three fires in our concessions covering approximately 20 hectares. These fires have been contained and our fire fighters are working to extinguish them. APRIL confirmed that all fires it had detected originally started outside of its concession areas and had spread into its concessions.

APRIL continues to work closely with government and local communities to contribute to their fire fighting efforts. The company today pledged additional manpower and resources to Badan Nasional Penanggulan Bencana (National Agency for Disaster Management) to support the Government’s ongoing efforts to tackle the fires.
