Italian packaging and tissue producer Pro-Gest plans to boost capacity of its corrugated board production at Plurionda in Zero Branco, Italy, add fourth production line to pizza box maker Cuboxal in Silea, Italy, in efforts to grow food packaging business

LOS ANGELES , June 5, 2013 (IndustryIntel) – Italian packaging and tissue manufacturer The Pro-Gest Group plans to boost the capacity of its corrugated board production at Plurionda SPA and add a fourth production line to its pizza box maker Cuboxal, citing an effort to increase the group’s food packaging business, Euwid reported June 5.

Both companies make food packaging within Pro-Gest and are based in northern Italy, with Plurionda in Zero Branco and Cuboxal in Silea.

The production of the Plurionda paperboard machine is expected to increase to 150 million square meters from 120 million m2, following an upgrade that could be completed by September.

According to Plurionda manager Evenio Vanzo, the investment marks the company’s decision several years ago to target food packaging, adding that he believes in the future growth of this sector, reported Euwid.

Efforts to boost productivity for Cuboxal are also being planned, as the company could begin installing a fourth production line around the end of 2014. Currently, the company’s three production lines have a total annual capacity of 300 million boxes and exports more than 80% of its products. Exports make up 95% of its sales.

It also expects to increase its two-shift operation to a three-shift operation and boost production by 10%, according to Benedetta Zago, Cuboxal’s manager.

Cuboxal recently moved to a larger site that opened June 1 and consequently doubled its storage and production space, and it plans to further expand the space to 22,000 m2 from 12,000 m2 by the end of next year, Euwid reported.
