June 4, 2013 () – It's more hygienic to dry your hands with a paper towel than an electric dryer, according to an Australian scientist.

Queensland University of Technology's Dr Cunrui Huang says it's because paper towels work more quickly than hot air and they physically remove germs from the hands.

Dr Huang says the transfer of germs is more likely from wet hands than dry hands.

He says part of the problem is a hand dryer takes 30 seconds longer to achieve about the same dryness as a towel and that's important because most people spend less than 20 seconds drying their hands.
