In
last week’s blog, I wrote about how restaurants were a popular destination for Mother’s Day.
Turns out that on Father’s Day, restaurants are even more popular.
According to a recent poll by Technomic Inc., 40% of U.S. consumers plan to celebrate Father’s Day at a restaurant on June 16. Also, 56% of Hispanic families plan to celebrate the holiday at a restaurant, the highest of any ethnic group. Additionally, 33% of overall consumers are planning for or looking forward to a special Father’s Day meal either at home or at the home of a family member or friend.
When you factor in the popularity that stems from Mother’s Day, it’s clear that celebrating your parents is huge business for the U.S. restaurant industry. According to recent data from the National Restaurant Association, more than 25% of U.S. adults and 80 million total were expected to have partaken in restaurant meals on Mother’s Day.
The popularity of restaurants on these holidays makes perfect sense for a host of reasons. For one, it’s an easy way to celebrate the holiday. For another, it’s an easy way to celebrate when you have multiple mothers and fathers in the same group. And look: It’s not always easy for consumers to find the perfect gift. So when in doubt, give food.
I’m not sure yet what I’ll be getting my dad for Father’s Day.
But if nothing else, I’ll have food to fall back on.
