LOS ANGELES , May 13, 2013 () – According to the Provincial Association of Companies Engaged in Maritime Activities (APEAM), an organization representing avocado exporters from Michoacan, Mexico, more than 1 billion pounds of avocados are expected to ship from Mexico to the U.S. this season, The Packer reported May 13.

The total would be due to a projected volume increase of 12% in the second quarter, APEAM said. If the 1 billion mark holds, that would exceed last season's record total of 798 million pounds.
