Online grocer FreshDirect adding more than 90 ZIP codes in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to its delivery area as part of expansion in New York City, Philadelphia metro areas
LONG ISLAND CITY, New York
April 30, 2013
– FreshDirect, the leading online retailer of fresh foods and grocery items, announced today that the company will expand service to new customers living in more than 90 zip codes in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This follows an eight county expansion from center city Philadelphia to the Greater Philadelphia area suburbs in January 2013.
"We're excited to offer our extensive, locally sourced fresh food products to residents in all three states," said Jason Ackerman, FreshDirect Co-Founder and CEO. "With our suburban customer growth outpacing customer growth in urban areas, the demand is one of the key drivers for our ahead of schedule expansion into Northern and Southern New Jersey. This extended delivery footprint will also bridge our successful operations in the NY Metro and Greater Philadelphia area and reach the growing demand from moms and suburban customers."
The largest expansion area includes 67 zip codes in New Jersey, serving new customers in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties in Northern New Jersey and Camden and Gloucester counties in Southern New Jersey. Other areas include zip codes in Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York; and Delaware and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania.
Through relationships with hundreds of farmers, ranchers and fisherman thought out the world, FreshDirect sources food directly to provide customers the best tasting, healthiest and freshest foods. "Our unique farm-to-fork delivery model, now available to households in 14 counties, sets a new standard for customers to create a new relationship with food," said Ackerman. "We are thrilled to extend our standards for food quality and sustainability, food sourcing and convenience that thousands of our customers have relied on us for, for more than a decade."
FreshDirect currently serves millions of customers, covering more than 80% of the NY Metro area. Throughout the past decade, FreshDirect has expanded from delivering to most addresses in Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens to the Bronx and many areas in Bergen, Nassau, Westchester, Hudson, Union, Essex, Morris, Passaic and southern Fairfield Counties. FreshDirect launched in nine Center City zip codes in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 2012. After three months, the company attracted 50% more customers than originally planned and expanded service to zip codes in eight counties throughout the Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey area.
