WEINFELDEN, Germany , March 4, 2013 (press release) – After installing a new laminating line in the fourth production hall of the plant in Opava, a second Asitrade line was moved there as well to enable lamination of a five-layer corrugated cardboard. The key part of the technical preparation, carried out by Asitrade specialists, was connecting both laminating lines so as to allow the double-layer cardboard produced by the first machine to pass into the new machine, which then joins two continuous cardboard belts into a single belt of four-layer cardboard. The acquisition of the new Asitrade laminating line brings a significant improvement in respect of both our technological options and quality.

The five-layer cardboard shows better mechanic qualities than a three-layer one. The difference the two additional layers bring is noticeable above all in the increased rigidness and strength. A combination of two different flutes provides packaging with greater edge and surface compression strengths. A litho-laminated five-layer corrugated cardboard packaging can withstand higher loads and demonstrates increased stability, greater edge strength and improved stackability. Packaging made of this cardboard is also more resistant to moisture. The increased number of layers creates more barriers and provides the packaging with higher resistances to both humidity and condensing moisture.

Two new flutes – the N and R flutes – will find use in the cosmetic industry. Litho-laminated three-layer corrugated cardboard with the cheaper N flute can alternatively meet the demand for packaging made of solid board with weight from 400 gr/m2 up. The R flute will be used as an optimizing flute, potentially replacing the B and E flutes. An R flute cardboard has reduced volume but equal strength, providing a decrease in transport costs. Litho-laminated five-layer corrugated cardboard may find its use for example in packaging for expensive, heavy or large merchandise. The material is also suitable for sales displays, providing them with increased stability and strength.
