LOS ANGELES , February 1, 2013 () – Two pulp and paper-related meetings are scheduled for late March in China.

The eighth China Pulp & Recycled Fiber Conference, organized by CFI Consulting Co. and Guangdong Pulp & Paper Exchange, will be held this year in Guangzhou from March 20-22.

Hawkins Wright Ltd. is organizing the first Hawkins Wright China Symposium, to be held in Shanghai on March 21.

Below is information about each:

•China Pulp & Recycled Fiber Conference
Among the speakers this year will be market pulp consultant Brian McClay of Montréal, discussing market pulp global demand, supply and pricing trends.

Jianping Fan, chief economist at China’s National Information Center, will speak about the key drivers—urbanization and domestic consumption—for China’s economy under the 12th five-year plan.

Other subjects to be addressed at the CFI conference are:
--the outlook for the South American market pulp supply;

--the role of Russian market pulp in China; the world fiber outlook;

--key price drivers for market pulp and recovered paper; outlooks for China’s tissue and cartonboard markets;

--China’s key ongoing and planned pulp and paper projects;

--China’s wood demand/supply gap and surging woodchip imports;

--analyses of China’s printing and writing paper market and of the global recovered paper market; and

--innovations regarding sale and distribution channels.

CFI Consulting said that about 400 people attended the 2012 conference held in Shanghai, with attendees from around the world including industry experts, pulp suppliers, papermakers, traders/agents, merchants and others.

•Hawkins Wright China Symposium

The theme is “Drivers of growth in China’s market pulp demand.”

Among the speakers are Guo Yong Xin of CNLIIC and China Paper Industry Chamber of Commerce; Chen Shao of Macquarie Capital Securities Ltd. in Shanghai; Petri Jokinen of Pöyry Management Consulting Oy; Alan Bog of Euroports Asia Terminals in Shanghai; and Oliver Lansdell of Hawkins Wright.

Presentations will cover the following issues:
--Chinese personal disposable income and spending, including government policy and reforms to encourage domestic consumption along with finance and credit for trade and new capital investment in manufacturing;

--Production of graphic papers, including capacity, utilization and price trends, domestic consumption and the impact of new technologies for communications, entertaining and advertising, as well as the potential for increasing exports;

--Tissue and Specialties production, including capacity, utilization and price trends, as well as the potential for development of new products;

--Substitution of domestic fiber, including domestic woodpulp production, non-wood pulp production, replacement of high quality woodfree recycled cellulose fiber, and rationalization of obsolete paper and pulp capacity; and

--Developments of paper industries in inland China, including supply chair corridors and transport and storage logistics and costs.

Roger Wright of Hawkins Wright said the symposium is in response to pulp suppliers who asked if the firm could organize a symposium along the lines of the annual Hawkins Wright/British Wood Pulp Association Symposium held in November during London Pulp Week.

Wright said the event’s main supporter is Xiamen C&D, the country’s largest pulp and paper trading company.
