China's wastepaper imports for January-September up 13.17% year-over-year, to 22.736 million tonnes, forecast to hit 30.5 million tonnes for the year; average import price falls US$43/tonne, to US$214/tonne, reports China Paper Assn.

BEIJING , January 8, 2013 () – Based on report by China Paper Association, Jan-Sept. 2012, China imported a total of 22.736 million mts of various kinds of waste paper, jumping 13.17% year on year. Average import per month was 2.5262 million mts, a rise of 294,000 mts from same period 2011. Average import price was US$ 214/tonne, dipping US$ 43/tonne from a year earlier.

Breaking down to specific grade, Jan-Sept. 2012, 12.9051 million mts of OCC were imported, jumping 13.67% year on year. Average import price was US$ 221/tonne, dipping US$ 41/tonne from a year ago. In a/m period, 5.2175 million mts of ONP and old magazine paper were imported, up 8.16% year on year. Average import price was US$ 209/tonne, dipping US$ 40/tonne. In same period, 3.9854 million mts of mixed paper were imported, jumping 18.4% year on year. Average import price was US$ 193/tonne,
sliding US$ 41/tonne. In a/m period, a total of 628,200 mts of sorted office paper were imported, jumping 14.27% year on year Average import price was US$ 258/tonne, sliding US$ 4/tonne.

According to import trend of first 9 months of 2012, the production/demand in later months and change of price in the market, it is expected some 30.5 million mts of waste paper would be imported throughout 2012, up around 12% year on year while export would be less than 10,000 mts in the year.
