December 20, 2012 (press release) – THE GINZA KABUKIZA Oil Blotting Paper On sale Tuesday, April 2, 2013

In commemoration of the opening of the new Kabukiza theater in April 2013, Shiseido Co., Ltd. has entered a collaboration with Shochiku Co., Ltd.

This project will see the release of THE GINZA KABUKIZA Oil Blotting Paper, which has been produced jointly by GINZA KABUKIZA, a new project launched by Shochiku, and Shiseido’s subsidiary, THE GINZA Co., Ltd.

The commemorative facial blotter will be on sale from Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at only two stores, SHISEIDO THE GINZA, which is Shiseido’s total beauty facility, and the GINZA KABUKIZA store in the Kabukiza building. The product will become available, in stages, at THE GINZA store at the Imperial Hotel and at airport duty free shops by the end of 2013.

About the Product

Shiseido’s Advertising Creation Department designed the packaging for this limited-edition commemorative product. The motif of a Chinese phoenix, Kabukiza’s crest, is rendered in three colors (black, persimmon and light yellowish green) used in Kabukiza’s curtains.

The facial blotter is produced with a gold foil manufacturing method that has been developed in Kanazawa, a major gold leaf producer in Japan. Based on this method, a gold beating machine repeatedly beats a stack of special Japanese paper to finely break the fibers down for perfect refinement. As you gently apply pressure to your face over the blotter, it will pleasantly absorb excessive sebum. Among the 30 sheets in each package, three have a gilt Chinese phoenix crest embossing printed on them.

About Shiseido and Kabukiza

Both Shiseido and Kabukiza were founded in Ginza in 1872 and 1889, respectively, and have pursued “beauty” and valued the pleasure of customers.

Settai Komura (1887-1949), a prominent Japanese-style painter who designed the stage sets for Kabukiza, originally worked for Shiseido’s Design Department (now the Advertising Creation Department). His perfume bottle and brochure design has been inherited as integral part of Shiseido’s beauty.
