– A 100-metre long paper making machine has been significantly damaged in a fire at a Melbourne paper mill.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade says about 50 fire fighters worked to control the fire at the Amcor paper recycling factory at Alphington following an alarm about 6.30 last night (AEDT).
Crews found a large fire in the machine on the first floor when they arrived and took over an hour to control the blaze, aided by the company's on-site fire team and 115 fire protection sprinkler heads.
The machinery was significantly damaged, while the roof also was damaged.
Crews will remain at scene throughout the night.
