LOS ANGELES & WASHINGTON , November 15, 2012 (press release) – Not just for retirees, universal design elements can benefit all homebuyers

KB Home (NYSE: KBH), one of the nation's largest and most recognized homebuilders, today announced a collaboration with AARP to offer the "Simply Living" collection of home design options exclusively at its KB Home Design Studios. Simply Living options reflect the principles of universal design, and are intended to make homeowners' lives easier, safer and less stressful—in a word, "simpler."

Available now at all KB Home Design Studios nationwide, the Simply Living options are identified by special product information tags. Simply Living options will be available across nearly all categories, including kitchen, bath, flooring, lighting and technology.

"Though the principles of universal design are not new, our collection of Simply Living options makes it easy to bring them into any new KB home," said Tom Silk, senior vice president of marketing and communications for KB Home. "The ability to incorporate features in our new homes that make good, practical sense for our customers in any stage of their lives is just one more way that KB Home's Built to Order process delivers customization and value to our homebuyers."

KB Home worked with AARP to determine which design options would qualify for the Simply Living label. Both organizations hope to raise awareness about the little adjustments to home design and decor that can have a positive impact on quality of life for homebuyers of all ages and abilities. For instance, Simply Living options include pull-out shelving in cabinetry, paddle light switches and slip-resistant flooring.

"Options like those included in the Simply Living collection are not just for retirees or those with physical limitations," said Amy Levner, Home and Family Manager for AARP. "Universal design is just that, universal, and we commend KB Home for recognizing the importance of giving consumers the opportunity to make their homes more accessible and more comfortable for all."
