Quad/Graphics Inc. confirmed that it has decided to cut 50 to 60 jobs at its printing plant in Dubuque, Iowa, by the end of this year, part of a companywide cost-cutting effort, reported the Telegraph Herald on Aug. 2.
The Sussex, Wisconsin-based printer is “looking at ways to maximize its efficiency and competitive platform,” said Clair Ho, director of corporate communications for Quad/Graphics.
The company’s second-quarter 2012 results are to be released on Aug. 8. The first-quarter results indicated a 3.1% drop in earnings, which Quad/Graphics President and CEO Joel Quadracci called “a solid start to the year,” the Telegraph Herald reported.
With 24 jobs eliminated at the Dubuque plant in May, the remaining workforce will total about 200 after the final cuts are made, according to Ho.
Notifications giving 30-days advanced warning of the cutbacks were delivered to employees starting on Aug. 1, said Ho, noting that the affected workers can accept open positions at other Quad/Graphics operations or receive a separation package of benefits, reported the Telegraph Herald.
