Scottsburn, Nova Scotia-based sawmill Ligni Bel could reopen following the acquisition by Northern Resources of C$5 million in secured debt of the company, according to a report by The News. Northern Resources is an affiliate of Northern Resources Nova Scotia Corporation.
Bob Bagdon, VP of human resources at Northern Resources, said the company intended to take over the mill and reopen it, creating about 70 jobs. The mill stopped production on Nov. 2 last year.
United Steelworkers spokesman Robert Bowers said he was "very pleased" that Northern Resources was interested in reopening the mill as this would get members back to work as soon as possible.
