Vancouver, British Columbia-based West Fraser Timber Co. today informed customers in North America that its Aug. 1 price of northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp will be $850/tonne, down $30/tonne.
This is the same price plan first announced on July 20 by Canfor Pulp LP, also of Vancouver.
Also today this plan was separately announced by Resolute Forest Products and Fibrek Inc., both based in Montreal. Resolute is in the process of buying Fibrek.
As well, Resolute announced that it would decrease its Aug. 1 southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK) price by $30/tonne, to $810/tonne. It made no statement about its price plans for bleached hardwood kraft pulp.
West Fraser has a combined pulp and paper capacity of 1.1 million tonnes/year, including NBSK and bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP).
