LENGERICH, Germany , July 17, 2012 (press release) – This rare award for outstanding environmental commitment was presented by regional council chairman Heinz Grunwald on July 10th 2012 at a visit in Konzell. In its rationale for selecting Albin Kienberger as environmental pact ambassador, the ministry cites "exemplary corporate management" which is also reflected in long-term participation in the "EMAS" environmental audit (Eco Management and Audit Scheme).

"As consumers of finite resources and energy, we want to face up to our particular responsibility and act as pioneers", explained Albin Kienberger. The company is participating in the Bavarian environmental pact and has already been committed to environmental protection for over 25 years. Focus is placed on sparing use of raw materials and energy. Over the past fifteen years, B+K Konzell has reduced its heating oil consumption by around 70 percent. This has been made possible thanks to modern building control technology and energy recovery.

The company regularly invests in modern machines in Konzell. This year's total is around €8 million. B+K constantly implements technology and know-how to increase resource and energy efficiency. All measures are monitored by the energy manager. The energy team systematically checks electricity consumption. This involves the flow of energy throughout the entire environment of the machines, from cooling water and climate control technology to compressed air. The employees' improvement suggestions are implemented at short notice as part of the idea management scheme.

The development engineers at Bischof + Klein constantly work towards optimising the packaging and films in close consultation with customers. Wall thickness minimisation is an important key term. B+K additionally offers flexible packaging solutions as alternatives to hard packaging for various products - these enable material reductions of over 80%. The packaging specialist is actively involved in developing films manufactured from "green PE". Albin Kienberger hopes that "proximity to the centre of competence for replenishable raw materials in Straubing may sensibly enhance development."
