SPRINGDALE, Arkansas , July 10, 2012 (press release) – Ball Corporation’s metal food and household products packaging manufacturing plant in Springdale has announced expansion plans that will grow its workforce by 25-30 within a year’s time.

The expansion, which will include an $8.5 million local investment, will involve the installation of a high speed production line. The new line will produce aerosol cans that will be used for paint, health and beauty items.

“This expansion by Ball is another example of our economy’s continued post-recession growth,” says Perry Webb, Chamber president. “Manufacturing in Springdale continues to show strong signs of growth while our employment numbers continued to climb. Ball is a long-time employer in this community and this expansion is great news for our city.”

The Springdale plant, which opened in 1949, currently produces metal food cans and ends in its 286,000 square foot facility at 1200 S. Crutcher Street.

In April of this year, the Springdale plant was selected to receive Ball Corporation’s R. David Hoover Sustainability Award. In the award program’s inaugural year, five Ball plants out of 61 around the globe earned the Hoover sustainability award for making significant improvements in economic, social and environmental performance. Among the noted achievements for the Springdale plant were its improved safety record, a reduction in electricity usage by 3 percent per unit of production, installation of a water metering system, expansion of its recycling program and a 76 percent reduction in its waste to landfill.

Ball Corporation (NYSE:BLL) is a supplier of high quality packaging for beverage, food and household products customers, and of aerospace and other technologies and services, primarily for the U.S. government.
