Greif employee fatally crushed by paper roll in warehouse at company's paperboard mill in Riverville, Virginia

LOS ANGELES , May 24, 2012 () – A man was crushed to death in an accident at the Greif paperboard mill in Riverville, Virginia, The Amherst New Era-Progress reported on May 24.

The accident occurred May 23 at a warehouse on site.

The victim, David McCormick, of Appomattox, was crushed by a large, heavy roll of paper, said a company spokesperson, Debra Strohmaier.

The Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was said to be on the scene.

The mill has been in operation since 1974, when it was founded as Virginia Fibre Corp., The Amherst New-Era Progress reported.

Shrohmaier said many employees have worked at the mill for their entire careers.

McCormick, the victim, had been employed there for about 30 years.
