LOS ANGELES , May 11, 2012 () – Weyerhaeuser log ship Coreship OL arrived at the Port of Olympia in Washington on Thursday after a 12-day maiden voyage from Hakodate, Japan, The Olympian reported.

Marine terminal services coordinator Kim Kawada said the last time a ship had made a maiden voyage to the port was in 2004. The ship is the ninth to visit the port this year and one of several transporting Weyerhaeuser logs to Japan.

The nearly 600 ft.-long Coreship was welcomed by port and local officials who presented Capt. Ching-Lung Lo and his crew with a plaque to wish them good fortune and safety for the return trip to Hiro, Japan.

The ship is being loaded with 5.8 million board feet of Weyerhaeuser Douglas fir logs, or about 25,000 logs, and is due to depart on Tuesday. Weyerhaeuser has a longstanding relationship with Japan-based customer Chugoku Mokuzai.
