CKE Restaurants feels no pressure to add more healthful items to menu even after promotion of turkey burgers, chicken burgers helped drive transactions for Carl's Jr. and Hardee's in fiscal 2012, CEO says

LOS ANGELES , April 12, 2012 () – The CEO of CKE Restaurants Inc. said the company feels no pressure to add more healthful items to the menu even after the promotion of turkey burgers and chicken burgers helped drive transactions for Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s in fiscal 2012, Nation’s Restaurant News reported April 11.

CEO Andrew Puzder said the chains have enough on their menus for calorie-conscious consumers and, in fact, the two brands would look for opportunities to add more indulgent burgers.

CKE has not actively promoted the better-for-you products with the exception of the turkey burgers, which were featured in a campaign showing a beauty queen wearing a turkey-print bikini. Puzder said the company’s change in advertising agencies to Los Angeles-based 72andSunny resulted in a return to an emphasis on models in bikinis in its advertising, which helped drive positive results for fiscal 2012.
