Northern Ireland-based millwork manufacturer Balcas orders US$250,000-worth of equipment from Conair for production of polymer-coated MDF at facility in Kildare, Ireland, hopes to begin production in Q4

LOS ANGELES , April 3, 2012 (Industry Intelligence) – Balcas Ltd. has place an order for equipment with the intention of starting up production of polymer-coated medium density fiberboard (MDF) in the fourth quarter, reported Plastics Today on April 3.

The Northern Ireland-based millwork manufacturer placed an order for US$250,000 in equipment with Conair Group during the first day of the National Plastics Exhibition's International Plastics Conference in Orlando, Florida. The exhibition is being held April 1 – 5 at the Orange County Convention Center.

Balcas hopes to begin producing the coated MDF at a facility in Kildare, Ireland, in the fourth quarter, said Balcas production director Peter Burton, Plastics Today reported.

The facility will use Eastman Chemical Co.’s Eastman Cerfis technology, for which Balcas signed a licensing agreement in February. The technology will be used to manufacture coated molding and trim products to be sold in Europe.

The Conair order includes drying hoppers, vacuum pumps, dust collectors, receivers, a control system, and an extrusion pusher that essentially pushes profiles through rather than using a traditional puller hauloff, said Ernie Preiato, VP extrusion at Conair, reported Plastics Today.
