Owens-Illinois Inc.’s new Vortex bottle had a major part in increasing beer sales at Gage Roads Brewing Co. in Western Australia, said the head of the brewery, reported FoodProcessing on March 30.
The new bottle design, which features distinctive grooves on the inside of the bottle’s neck, provides a smooth exterior for easy labeling. The internal embossing is available in different designs, according to the Perrysburg, Ohio-based glass container company.
Last June, Gage Roads was the first company in the Asia Pacific region to try the Vortex bottle, which was designed in Melbourne and is made at O-I’s plant in Sydney, Australia, FoodProcessing reported.
Gage Roads reported a 25% year-over-year increase in sales of its Wahoo Premium Ale since it changed the packaging.
Changes to the brand’s packaging, including the Vortex bottle, new colors on its label and different secondary packaging “had a positive impact on sales,” said Gage Roads CEO John Hoedemaker, reported FoodProcessing.
