Metsä Fibre announces April 1 NBSK prices of US$870/tonne for Europe and US$730/tonne (standard grade) and US$740/tonne (reinforcing grade) for China

– Metsä Fibre Oy in Finland today announced northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp price increases for Europe and China, effective April 1 until further notice.
Its price for Europe will be US$870 per tonne.
For China its prices will be $730/tonne (standard grade) and $740/tonne (reinforcing grade).
Two other major NBSK producers with operations in Europe, first Södra Cell AB and then Mercer International Inc. separately announced the $870/tonne price plan for Europe this week. This is generally being recognized as a $20/tonne increase.
For China, several Canadian standard-grade NBSK producers have announced the $730/tonne price, and Canadian reinforcing-grade NBSK producer Canfor Pulp LP is going to $740/tonne. The amount of these increases is $30/tonne.
Metsä Fibre refers to its softwood pulp as Botnia Nordic Pine. It also produces Botnia Nordic Strong (reinforcement pulp), and Botnia Nordic Birch (hardwood pulp).
Metsä Fibre has bleached pulp mills in Joutseno, Kemi, Rauma and Äänekoski, all in Finland, with a total annual capacity of 2.4 million tonnes. It also markets pulps for other producers, bringing its annual sales to 3.3 million tonnes, according to the company website. The company also owns the Svir Timber sawmill in Podporozhye, Russia.
