Kingfisher plc is delighted to announce that Ian Cheshire, Group Chief Executive, has been awarded the Retail Week Retailer of the Year Award for 2012. This award is for the individual who has made the greatest contribution to their own business and the wider sector over the previous 12 months, and is voted for by the Retail Week editorial team.
Commenting on receiving the award, Ian Cheshire said: “This award is for the team, rather than for me. It’s a wonderful recognition of the part our 35,000 people in the UK, and 80,000 people around the world, play in making Kingfisher the successful international retailer it is today. It’s on their behalf that I’m able to accept this award.
“We’ve grown the business responsibly and I’m delighted that B&Q UK has received recognition for their hard work in this area and has won the Retail Week Responsible Retailer of the Year Award.”
B&Q UK scooped the Retail Week Responsible Retailer Award for its genuine commitment to placing sustainability at the heart of its business, and in the process making it easier for its customers, colleagues and suppliers to reduce their environmental impact. The retailer beat off competition from a short list of the Co-operative Group, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco and ASOS.co.uk.
