Arvey Paper & Office Products is set to be closed at the end of April by International Paper Co.'s xpedx, as part of its nationwide consolidation of its stores, The Indianapolis Business Journal reported Feb. 27.
Arvey's Indianapolis location has been in existence for more than 25 years, but the scheduled closure is part of xpedx's plan to close most of its locations, which had reached a peak of 140 sites.
Ultimately, xpedx plans to keep 13 Arvey stores open, but the remaining shops will only serve larger customers who make orders of US$350 or more. xpedx had been closing stores in the last two years, the Business Journal reported.
Store manager Scott Aldridge said he is hopeful a local investor will buy the business, which posts revenues of about $300,000 a month.
