A Wisconsin-based paper manufacturer plans to lay off 330 workers in southwest Ohio and get its base paper from a Canadian supplier.
The Dayton Daily News reports that Appleton Papers informed West Carrollton city officials of the layoffs planned at its plant in the Dayton suburb.
The Appleton, Wis.-based company said in a statement Thursday that about 100 workers would remain at the plant pending an agreement with the workers' union.
Appleton says a tentative agreement with Domtar Corp. would supply Appleton with most of the uncoated base paper to make thermal, carbonless and other specialty paper products.
The statement says paper mills like the local one that don't produce pulp directly from logs or wood chips are no longer competitive.
Appleton did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
